MEET SPENCER
Hi, I’m Spencer. I'm the owner of Chick & Ruth's Delly, a community advocate, and a proud Virginia Tech grad (Go Hokies!). I live in Crofton with my wife Alyssa. I’m running for County Council because we need common sense leadership to keep Anne Arundel affordable for all.
PRIORITIZING DISTRICT 7
The cost of living is skyrocketing, families and small businesses are struggling. I’m running because our county needs leaders who understand these struggles and are ready to act.
We have to make Anne Arundel affordable again. Whether it’s the price of housing, food, child care, or energy, it’s all stretching the budgets of District 7 families.
Childcare shouldn't be another mortgage payment. We should make it easier for affordable, home childcare businesses to get off the ground. We also need to hold the line on property taxes, whether you're a homeowner or a renter, property taxes drive up your housing costs. I'll focus on spending our existing tax dollars responsibly.
No matter the issue, keeping Anne Arundel affordable is my number one priority.
I’m proud to own and operate several small businesses. Many of my worst days on the job are days I have to deal with government agencies. It doesn’t have to be that way. I’m all for safety and environmental rules, but how many approvals should you need to put up a banner? The issues with county permitting hurt homeowners too. It shouldn't take months to get approval for a simple patio in your backyard. We have to streamline the county permitting processes. Other places have done it, we can too. I'm committed to making government work for our residents and small businesses again.
Our firefighters run into burning buildings to keep us safe! Their jobs are more dangerous because they’re understaffed and overworked. This puts our firefighters and the whole county at risk. I’ll work to increase staffing levels to help keep our firefighters and community safe.
It’s the job of law enforcement to keep our communities safe and to get violent offenders off our streets. It’s the job of the County Council to give the police everything they need to do that work safely and effectively. We need to be tough on crime AND smart on crime. I’ll push to hire more cops and use cutting-edge technology to lower response times and solve crimes.
My employees rely on me to balance a budget to keep the business open and their families supported. Every year I audit my own business expenses to see what we’re spending. Every time I find at least one place where we could be saving money and fix it. We need a County Councilman that can do that too. The Council's most critical job is to manage the $2 billion county budget. A budget that large is bound to have money we could be spending better. We need to save every dollar we can so we can invest in public safety and education. You deserve a government that spends your hard-earned tax dollars well.
I’m a proud product of public schools. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it weren’t for the teachers who supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. We have wonderful teachers in our county, and they need a councilman that supports them.
I support a well funded educational system so every kid across the county has a chance to succeed. We can't get complacent, we need to strive for excellence at every level and opportunity for all.
No district in the county has as much coastline as we do in District 7. No other district has the natural beauty we have, from the shores to the forests to the wetlands. It’s a tremendous blessing and we can’t take it for granted. I’ll work to preserve the health of our environment, especially our waterways.
Our waterways belong to all of us. South County residents work hard, their tax dollars should come back to the community. It could be buying the Discovery Village boat ramp, or it could be something else. Either way, I'll work hard to restore public water access in South County.
Route 3 is a mess. I live less than five minutes off the road, I know how bad traffic can be. I’ll fight to ensure Crofton gets its fair share of county dollars back to support fixing Route 3. I'll also work with our state delegation to bring state dollars in to support the project. I don't have all the answers, but I'll work hard to find solutions.

WE ENDORSE SPENCER!
